Juneau offers abundant recreational opportunities in the pristine mountains and waters that surround the city. From skiing at the city-owned Eaglecrest Ski Area, to salmon fishing and whale watching in Lynn Canal, outdoor activities abound. The borough boasts dozens of hiking trails, the Juneau Icefield offers excellent terrain for mountaineering, and hunting is a local pastime. There are active bicycling and running clubs and competitions, and leagues for youth and adult baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball and ice hockey. In addition to the ski area, the city operates two indoor pools and an ice arena.
